Why human support matters in AI implementation

Implementation creates an ongoing working relationship. The business needs to know who helps when its process changes or a new question appears.

Business context needs a conversation.

A written brief rarely captures every exception in a business. Staff may use different language for the same request, or a process may depend on knowledge that has never been documented. Working through that context takes discussion.

My background is in building and operating businesses. That experience shapes what I want from a technology partner: a willingness to understand the work and a clear way to resolve questions.

Define what support means.

Ask who the business contacts, what information helps diagnose an issue, and who approves changes to the workflow. Clarify what is included in the relationship rather than relying on the word “support” by itself.

For a proposed implementation, document responsibilities on both sides. The business may need to provide accurate instructions, designate a workflow owner, and review examples. The implementation team needs to explain how questions and requested changes are handled.

Plan for the business to evolve.

Opening hours, team roles, customer questions, and operating priorities can change. Decide how those updates reach the people maintaining the workflow. A process should not depend on someone noticing an outdated instruction by accident.

A short recurring review can keep the relationship grounded in the work. Bring examples, unresolved questions, and proposed changes. The purpose is to keep the implementation useful as the business develops.

TAKE IT INTO THE BUSINESS

A practical check.

  • Know who owns the support relationship.
  • Define how issues are reported.
  • Clarify who approves workflow changes.
  • Review instructions when the business changes.
