Leadership

From enrichment programs to a builder’s mindset

As a teenager in high school, I developed summer camps and afterschool curriculum with the Enrichment Project. Creating something for other people was part of the story before the companies.

An idea needs a useful structure.

A program is more than an interesting concept. It needs a purpose, an audience, and a sequence people can follow. That is a useful way to think about building in many settings.

The entrepreneurial instinct showed up even earlier for me: selling bow-and-arrow lessons at four, working to buy a mop, and then selling the mop at six. These were small beginnings. The connection was the urge to make something happen.

Design around the people taking part.

When considering any new program or process, ask what people should understand at the beginning and what they should be able to do next. Break the idea into steps that make sense to the participant.

That question remains useful in business. A customer inquiry, a team handoff, or an internal workflow all involve someone trying to move from one point to another. Clear instructions and a sensible next step can make the process easier to follow.

Keep building and helping connected.

My later work grew to include behavioral healthcare, lead generation, real estate, and Overcy. I also mentor young men who are shaping their lives or starting over. The settings differ, but creating something useful for people remains an important part of the picture.

The practical takeaway is to keep the intended person visible while developing an idea. Define who the work is for, what it should help them do, and how you will know whether the experience makes sense to them.

TAKE IT INTO THE BUSINESS

A practical check.

  • Who is the program or process for?
  • What should it help them do?
  • What sequence makes the next step clear?
  • How will you hear from the people using it?

The connection to Overcy.

Overcy is the next chapter in that broader story: bringing experience in building and helping to businesses looking for practical uses of AI.
